Apple variety Mariner

The original tree found by Airman C growing within Milford Docks, cuttings for grafts being bravely obtained by him and Allius Maximus during a joint expedition somewhat in the style of Last Of The Summer Wine! Almost certainly it grew from a pip in a core which somebody threw away many years ago, climbing the steps built to connect the old fish market with town, which come out near Newings… Hence my alternative name of Lord Nelson, after the nearby hotel.
A late well-flavoured apple which keeps well; some people like them as eaters, but I consider them a useful semi-sweet cooker. I picked these just before the very strong blow we had a few days ago.
