Buffy the turnip slayer…?

…No: I’m getting my moths mixed up! Thanks to the hugely knowledgeable Orlanda Kilner, I now know that the mature adult (Seen here Sept 1st) is a Turnip moth – which does in larval form attack root crops – whilst the caterpillar seen yesterday (Sept 4th) is that of a Buff Tip moth, said creature uncannily resembling a piece of silver birch twig: last photo (I hope he doesn’t mind) by Iain Leach, butterfly-conservation.org.
