High tide, Musselwick

On Saturday morning I was hoping to experience swimming off the rocks at Musselwick with the tide right up: this was one of the highest springs of 2020.
Unfortunately there was a ground swell: big waves filling in quickly but quietly, then falling away with a tremendous sweeping backwash – would have made getting out after a swim VERY tricky!
Musselwick with the sea right in had such a different feel: definite picture potential-
so, out with the pad to sketch this composition.
There’s a high tide, and then there’s a high sea!
Here are the Musselwick steps on Saturday morning:
you can see the dark “slop mark” showing how far the waves reached.
Now consider this: that is a shiny new orange lifebuoy because, during one of last winter’s storms,
our old rather faded lifebuoy was lifted off and carried away-
that puts the sea reaching close to where you cross the stream.
