Poem: Music!

The Brook Inn is in St Ishmaels – open again, I am glad to report, after there were doubts for quite some time about its future.

19th February 2023

Music, there was music,
Down at the Brook last night.
No amplifiers, nothing electric:
They could have played by candlelight.

But it did seem such a pity
That we who came were few;
Because, songs with guitars and mandolins–
Wouldn’t you have enjoyed that too?

Outside, under stars, water chuckled;
Within, it was early Spring
For the bar was sweet with daffodils–
So many, so welcoming!

We do need to go, I’m sure you know,
To our inns if they are to survive:
Without a friendly pub as its busy hub,
A place isn’t so alive.

Next time that there’s music on offer close by,
Do try to come along;
And perhaps you, like me, will find with glee
That you’re welcome to sing your own song.

So could it be that one day we’ll be welcome to play
In a pub which is nearer my home…?
Dear friends, easier to try and get pigs to fly
Up at the old aerodrome!

There used to be music in Marloes, once upon a time!
