Poem: The Wednesday evening open mic

10th August 2022

Going round and round in circles,
In the chapel we sit to wait our turn:
As they say of constipation,
It’s a long wait to perform –
Because there are many people here tonight:
Most of them like to sing;
Others have piles of poems, they do,
About almost anything.

So we all need heaps of patience,
Like patients in the surgery;
So why do we keep coming, daft buggers…?
And I mean you, as well as me!
I suppose we love our calling,
Our passion for the Muse, you know –
And as long as we can’t meet in local pubs,
There’s nowhere else to go!
