Poem: This Sea!

Composed on the walk down to Musselwick Sands, 3rd August 2020

THIS SEA!
4th August 2020

This sea!

It is an adventure sea but also a lullaby sea,
A love-song sea or a sea which drums for war.

A friend sea, a friendship sea, a friend’s ship’s sea, a friendly sea;
Equally, an enemy.

“It” is a she-sea, a he-sea…  Or any other.

The White Sea?  The Red Sea?  An any-colour-you-like sea.
A Sea For All Seasons; a sea for every reason.

A pleased sea; a cheesed-off sea;
A Please sea and a Thank You sea –
Or perhaps just a Maybe sea: we’ll have to see!

A “What’s beyond?” sea;
A “What’s beneath?” sea;
A “What’s above?” sea.

A sea charted, mapped, uploaded,
But not yet properly measured, still less seen:
That gives us pleasure.

A sea secreting diamonds, gold, silver, bronze…
However, the true treasure is simply its sea-ness:
Its salty, life-full, oxygenated wetocity, in all its moods –
From placid, to damnably bash-about bolshily RUDE…!

An oceanful of emotions.
