Weeds

A weed, some say, is just a plant growing in the wrong place; on Gardeners’ Question Time, enthusiasm recently for anything choosing to grow anywhere! Well my seed potatoes wouldn’t have stood a chance if I hadn’t gone to a deal of trouble clearing this patch – the site of a failed attempt at a beetle bank, i.e. a huge heap of old woody material. That isn’t a small barrow; while the camera has flattened the perspective, rest assured it was heaped with couch grass, and nettle and thistle roots. I didn’t remove the stones because I had a problem with them in the soil; it’s just, in building projects I always need good ballast.
