Back to School Custard

The School Custards of 2020 have arrived!
A unique apple, grown by me from a pip (probably a Granny Smith).
This one fell a bit early; properly ripe, they are
pale warm yellow with a slight rose blush.
Quite sweet; not a strong flavour but there’s definitely a vanilla hint, hence the name.
Popular with youngsters, I reckon, because of their far better sense of taste.
…Talking of “Back to School”: how we hated those shop displays which so often went up before
the end of July, spoiling the whole morning for us.
While schools are surely much nicer places these days, I still think there should be
a “No more than a fortnight before” law!
